Television is one of the most wonderful inventions of modern science. It plays a great role in the life of modern people. It is the most powerful audio-visual medium that serves both the purpose entertainment and information. Its importance in our daily life is too tremendous to be described in words. It helps us to live modern civilized life by keeping us quite abreast of the current world through telecasting world news on politics, economy, health, medicine, money, etc. Television is the most up-to-date means of communication. As a medium of mass communication, it has proved its superiority over the newspaper, radio. Through television, our political leaders can makepeople aware of programmes and this can form public opinion. It caters to the needs and tastes of all kinds of men and women. Like the radio it broadcasts news, music, weather and market reports, sports news, speeches, comments and the interviews of important persons, etc. It is also a powerful medium of mass education. To eradicate illiteracy from our country, it can play a vital role. It can telecast a programme with a view to imparting knowledge on hygiene, agriculture, food, the environment and the other aspects of life but it is out an unmiyed blessing. It has some demerits too. Nowadays, children waste their valuable time by watching television. It sometimes telecasts exciting films and programmes which cause harm to our young people and children. Finally, it can be said that it is the most up-to-date means of communicating thoughts and ideas. Its possibilities are quite immense and its uses are unending.
